No one will disagree when you say that the worlds economy is and has been in a slumber for some time now. The reality of the matter is there is no hopes of improvement in sight. With the decline of the economy comes the loss of jobs. With the loss of jobs comes more individuals being punished for not being able to pay child support.

Recent statistics have shown that this scenario has become a double edge sword. Custodial parents are requesting an increase in child support, while noncustodial parents are seeking a child support reduction. At the end of the day child support laws vary from state-to-state. The amount that is paid by the noncustodial parent is based on their income. There are other factors such as how many children are involved, the amount of time the child spends with each parent as well as the income of the custodial parent.

In some cases the judge will take into consideration the employment situation of the noncustodial parent. This is not the case the majority of the time. The child support system although meant to serve the needs of the child, seems to be a lean mean life wrecking machine.

From doing several interviews with current and ex-sufferers of the child support system, they all state that it is best if the parents can come to some agreement amongst themselves. It is important for parents to keep in mind that this situation is not about them nor their differences, its about the financial well being of the child and or children. More often than not, the parents get caught up in trying to hurt one another and the children become the victims.

Because of the non-ability of the parents to communicate with one another is the only reason that the child support system exist in the first place. It is shameful that we as human beings do not have enough self control to separate our negative feelings for one another long enough to come to some sort of reasonable agreement. If parents took more responsibility for their actions there would be no need for such third party services such as child support services.

If you currently find yourself in the situation where you need to seek a child support reduction it is highly advisable that you consult with a family law attorney. If you attempt to go it alone you are headed down a dangerous path, and the odds are horribly stacked against you.

Before attempt to seek child support reduction, make sure that you have all of your paperwork in order. You will want to show proof of why you are seeking a reduction. Do not bail on seeking legal council do to your current financial situation. I assure you if you do your situation you will be able to find a lawyer that you can afford. Many areas have support groups that will help you. The key factor here is you do not want to initiate this process alone.
